Level Up by Gene Luen Yang

In the book I chose to read, Level Up by Gene Luen Yang and drawn by Thien Pham is a cartoon story about a typical Asian boy named Dennis Ouyang who has finally graduated from high school and enrolled into college. However, his dad dies shortly after Dennis enters college, leading him to go slightly off track. Dennis begins to play videogames as a way of healing himself, but soon it becomes an addiction. Dennis comes very close to getting kicked out of college. However, a group of strange little forces soon come and help him along his way. They teach him to not lose his will to endure and to study his brains out. It eventually helps him because Dennis gets into medical school. It is then that his little helpers tell him his destiny…to become a gastroenterologist. All is not how it seems because pretty soon Dennis veers off his path again and into the world of videogames. In the end it all works out and Dennis finds a healthy blend between videogames and helping others through being a gastroenterologist. I would definitely recommend this book because I thought it was a great read and very funny.
