The Girl in the Steel Corset by Kady Cross

The Girl in the Steel Corset, first book in The Steampunk Chronicles, is a dark sci-fi book about a maid who runs away from the castle she works in. Finley Jayne, age sixteen and young maid working for the August-Raynes family, is a smart fierce girl with a dark side. When she gets angry, she turns into a strong scary girl who can lift a guard with ease. After getting hit on the side of the road, she is taken in by two boys named Griffin, who can see ghosts, and Sam, who is part robot. They decide to take her in and train her to be part of their team of super powerful children. In their home, she meets a girl named Emily who has a thing for mechanics. They all become good friends but Sam thinks she is suspicious and doesn't want her in their house. Griffin discards the thoughts of her being evil and helps her control her dark side so she can work with them to defeat a mysterious man they call The Machinist. He builds robots to commit crimes all over London. They believe he is the one who killed their parents. This book is serious but thrilling. There are many fight scenes and there's always plot twists. It takes place in Victorian London, 1897. A good book for those who are into fiction. I recommend it for those who like action, romance and a little violence now and then.
