Center Field by Robert Lipsyte

Center Field is about a fifteen year old boy named Mike. When his center field position on his baseball team is threatened by a new kid in town, he starts to take out his anger at school. He gets in trouble at school and his frustration and anger affect his ability to play baseball well. He is in a slump and turns to the website of his favorite professional baseball player, Billy Bud, to look for answers. Billy Bud gives him encouragement and tells him to focus on what is important to him. The motivation Mike gets from Billy changes things for him.

I liked this book because it is filled with action and the story has unexpected twists and turns. I would recommend it to friends my age. I think it is not only for people who like sports, since it has an underlying life lesson in the story that is encouraging for everyone.
