The Apothecary by Maile Meloy

I read The Apothecary by Maile Meloy. This book was a amazing book. It will surprise the reader at every turn. It has a great plot. The book has a amazing combination of history, fiction, and science. World War II has just ended, but Russia is back for the Cold War. It is 1952 and the Scott family are moving to London. Janie is upset that they have to leave. When they arrive, the local apothecary gives Janie a cure for homesickness. However Mr. Burrows is no ordinary man. When he gets kidnapped, he gives an ancient book, the Pharmacopeia, to his son Benjamin Burrows. Russian spies are intent on getting the book. Discovering unbelievable elixirs in the book, Janie and Benjamin have to save the world from an unearthly disaster. I would highly recommend this book. It is an amazing book, and danger is around every corner. We can learn from it because there is information about World War II and the Cold War in there. We can also enjoy the book because it is a great story.
